    1613 Blazer Kitchen Volunteer Shifts

I enjoyed working at Blazer Kitchen because I got to know more about the people in my community. It has been amazing getting to serve my community and to know that I am giving back to a school that has poured so much into me.

I have learned so much about other people in my community. It is very neat helping UAB staff and students who go to school with me. I feel really rewarded after my first couple if shifts at Blazer Kitchen and I cannot wait to see what this experience brings me. This experience is going to help me in my future Social Work practice and I am thankful to be along for this journey with my campus. Go Blazers!

Closing our final visit at Huffman Middle was very surreal. I will never forget these children and I hope I have made an impact in their lives. This experience has changed my life forever and has affirmed my social work career in many ways. I enjoyed seeing their faces every week and learning more about them, what they struggle with, and helping them find a solution. The most challenging part for me is definitely internally knowing I will probably never see them again. I wish so badly I could help guide them through life. My key takeaway is just to be in the moment. You never know what these children are going through, so in each moment, allow the child to express themselves and be open to what they are saying to you.
